Waves4Change provides a child-friendly mental health service to children from over 40 priority and under-resourced communities in South Africa (in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces), where children experience chronic adversity and trauma, including the effects of HIV/AIDS. For example, we know that Khayelitsha (served by our Monwabisi site) has less than 1 social worker per 30,000 youth. This means that children do not have access to the mental health and social support they need. W4C uses sport to deliver improved mental health support for children who are at a risk of developing mental health conditions.

Backed by evidenced-based research, W4C has expanded its reach, operating Surf Therapy programs that engage 2800 children weekly, from 43 communities along the South African coastline. W4C programs also create employment opportunities for 43 young unemployed South Africans (18-25 yrs) who are trained, mentored and employed as surf coaches who combine surfing with psychosocial education.

As Waves4Change grows, so does our support. This Giving Tuesday (the Tuesday following Thanksgiving), a generous donor has offered a matching fund to help support the increasing needs of our grantee. This means your donation's impact will be doubled, helping to ensure that more children are able to experience surf therapy and community. During the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, please consider donating to this vital, life-affirming work.
